The course “The Human and the Machine” was conducted in groups, where we worked on creating a bicycle frame—from the concept idea to the creation of functional bicycles. We chose to design a bike that offers a shared riding experience for both the rider and their dog.
During the course, we were required to identify areas for intervention and provide solutions while considering engineering conditions, material selection, procurement, and the production of a fully functioning bicycle. Through field research, we realized that riding with a dog next to the rider is less comfortable and safe. This led us to the idea of positioning the dog at the center of the bike, which required extending the size of the bike to provide space for both pedaling and the dog. Additionally, we needed to develop a steering system that differs somewhat from the common designs available on the market today.
